EET 2.0 · Shopify POS · Czech Republic
Get your Shopify POS ready for EET 2.0
From 1. January 2027, businesses in Czechia must record qualifying cash and in-person payments with the Financial Administration. Check whether your Shopify POS sales are affected, what the official deadlines are and what you can prepare now.
Key dates
- Official start of EET 2.0
- Regular operation begins. January runs as a pilot, but it is already standard recording.
Does it affect you?
Does EET 2.0 affect your Shopify POS sales?
It depends on how each payment is made, not on whether you use Shopify. Under EET 2.0, businesses record contact payments (made in person or on their premises) and cash payments in the Czech Republic, unless an exception applies.
- Generally recorded
Physical shop
Payments at your counter in the Czech Republic, whether in cash, by card, QR code or voucher, are contact payments.
- Generally recorded
Pop-up, market or event
Selling in person at a pop-up, market or fair is also a contact payment. A temporary location does not make it exempt.
- Generally not recorded
Online orders paid online
Payments made remotely through your web shop’s payment gateway or by bank transfer, without personal contact and outside your premises, are generally not recorded.
- Depends on the payment
Online orders paid in store
If a customer pays when collecting in your shop, that is a contact payment. If the order was already paid online, that payment was remote. What counts is how and where the customer pays.
Good to know
- Cash payments are always recorded, even without personal contact. One exception: cash on delivery collected by a postal service operator and transferred to you.
- Some businesses and activities are exempt, for example certain public bodies, banks and insurers, and activities listed in the law.
- Under EET OFF, self-employed people in the first band of the flat-rate tax scheme with income up to CZK 1 million a year can opt out of recording by paying a surcharge of CZK 1,400 a month.

What is EET 2.0
EET 2.0 in brief
EET 2.0 is the Czech Republic’s new electronic sales registration system (evidence tržeb), run by the Financial Administration (Finanční správa). It is set out in Act No. 180/2026 Coll. on sales registration, which takes effect on 1 January 2027.
It follows the original EET, which was abolished. The new system focuses on payments made in person between a business and its customers. According to the official portal, printing receipts is optional, and you do not record the goods sold or VAT rates.
Businesses register for sales recording in their DIS+ tax information box on the MOJE daně portal, set up recording units (for example a shop) and request a cash register certificate.
Why Shopify POS merchants should map their payment flows
In a Shopify setup, shop sales, pop-ups, local pickup and online orders often run through one store. Because EET 2.0 depends on how each payment is made, a useful first step is a list of every place and way you take payments in the Czech Republic.

EET 2.0 in MOJE daně
Businesses can register for sales recording, set up recording units and request a cash register certificate.
Regular operation
EET 2.0 starts. January runs in pilot mode, but it is already standard recording.
What happens if sales are not recorded
- The law treats it as an offence if a business fails to send the data on a recorded sale to the tax administrator, or seriously obstructs sales recording.
- For these offences, a fine of up to CZK 500,000 can be imposed (§ 23 and § 24). That is the maximum. Fines are decided case by case by the tax office, or on the spot by the customs office. They are not automatic.
- If the connection fails, sales data must be sent once it is restored, and no later than 48 hours after the sale (§ 20).
Why prepare now
Assess your payment flows
Work out which sales at each location are contact or cash payments, including pop-ups and pickups.
Coordinate your agency and adviser
Agree scope and exceptions with your tax adviser, and timing with whoever manages your Shopify setup.
Plan staff preparation
Shop staff need to know what changes at the till, and what to do if the connection drops.
